Cincinnati Incorporated is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to gain hands-on experience supporting the design, development, and improvement of industrial machinery. You’ll have the opportunity to work on real engineering projects, research and test equipment and designs, use 3D CAD, and help develop solutions that meet customer requirements while learning from experienced engineering professionals.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the design and development of engineering projects and customer orders
  • Use 3D CAD to develop and modify mechanical designs
  • Specify components and assist with product modifications to meet engineering and performance requirements
  • Research, test, and analyze equipment, components, and systems
  • Develop and test alternative designs to evaluate feasibility and identify improvements
  • Research customer specifications, manuals, and other technical information to evaluate design feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements
  • Review and update technical manuals, engineering documentation, and supplemental materials
  • Support the development and improvement of products including shears, conveyors, press brakes, lasers, and material handling systems
  • Apply lean practices by identifying opportunities to reduce waste and create value for the customer
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and cross-functional teams to complete projects and meet customer requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience or coursework involving 3D CAD
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to research, analyze, test, and evaluate engineering concepts
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Customer-focused mindset with excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines

Position Overview

Develop engineering discipline for product lines by studying customer requirements, and researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and perform the design and development engineering on various size (small to major) research and development projects or sales orders
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
  • Develop and test models of alternative designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification
  • Review new and existing writings of manuals and documentation, adding supplemental materials as required
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements of designs or applications

Work Experience

Required Experience: Less than 1 year

  • Fully capable of performing all levels of tasks needed to complete a project or sales order, including all aspects of 3D CAD
  • Must be successful in leading and performing development engineering for assigned product lines including shears, conveyors, press brakes, powdered metal presses, lasers and material handling systems
  • Adopt and promote lean practices in all activities, considering the elimination of wasteful resources for any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer
  • Planning ability to think ahead and plan over a two year time span

Education

Required Degree Level: Undergraduate

  • Working toward an Associates or Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering

Physical Demands:

This position is very active and requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing of ladders. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. frequently. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment can be loud occasionally.
